WFR Course

Wilderness First Responder

The Middle Fork of the Salmon is a pristine, free-flowing river that runs 100 miles through the heart of the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness Area- the largest wilderness area in the Lower-48.  This remote paradise is the perfect place to develop and practice wilderness medicine in a realistic setting.  Middle Fork Adventures is proud to offer you professional-level training in the wilderness environment.

We will begin our adventure at our facility in Salmon, ID.  Day one is a classroom day where we will set ourselves up for success by covering baseline knowledge.  The next day we set out for the river and into the wilderness.

Each day will include both lectures and hands-on practical work, culminating in full-scale realistic rescue scenarios. Participants are expected to paddle together as a team, at the direction of the guide.  Together we will navigate Class IV rapids!  We will also do our best to make time to enjoy some of the amazing offerings of the wilderness area- hikes and excursions to hot-springs are highlights!

By the end of the course, the confidence instilled in participants through physically practicing the skills we learn all week is immeasurable.  Participants who successfully complete the course will be issued 3-year WFR Certifications.
