Before the Trip

Our team of travel experts specializes in multi-day adventure logistics

Middle Fork Adventures will help coordinate travel to the mountain town of Stanley, Idaho or the historic city of Salmon, Idaho. Once you’re settled into your hotel room , take the afternoon to explore or take it easy in your room after a long travel day. We ask that you meet us at 6:30 that evening, for an orientation with your trip leader. This is where you will have the opportunity to talk with your trip leader about any last minute questions and concerns, talk river logistics, receive your dry bags for packing, and get really excited for the trip, if you weren’t already!

Day 1

Your vacation of a lifetime is finally here. Let the adventure begin!

The day has finally arrived! We are on our way to the launch site around 8 o’clock in the morning by bus or by plane. Your guides will be there, ready and waiting to meet you and take your bags for loading on the boats. We will have a brief discussion about river safety and etiquette, and then we’ll begin our journey traveling the Middle Fork Salmon River through the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. The adventure begins quickly with exhilarating white water rapids, followed up with a delicious and nutritious riverside lunch and a stress-melting soak in our first natural hot springs stop of the trip.

Days 2-5

The rhythm of river life

Guides awake early to start preparing a delicious, hot breakfast, and coffee! After you have breakfast and coffee, you head back to your tents to get ready for the day’s adventures and pack your dry bags. Our team will clean up camp, break down tents, and load the boats. We practice Leave No Trace, which means that we strive to leave the campsite as if we had never been there. As soon as we are all ready, we will load our rafts, inflatable kayaks, & SUP Boards, and head downstream!

Mid-day will find us pulled over for a riverside lunch that may include activities such as world class fishing, hiking, soaking in natural hot springs, or visiting cultural & historical sites. We hope you enjoy the disconnect, and the simple sounds of nature while we travel through the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness after lunch.

We will eventually arrive at camp, where once again you will be greeted with a fully set up camp. Dinner will be served with a smile, and festivities will abound.

Day 6

Rafting through the Impassable Canyon. The grand finale of the trip

We save the biggest rapid for the last day! Breakfast as usual (just a little earlier, so that we can maximize our time on the river), and then we travel downstream to enjoy our last day of whitewater fun! Just before we reach the Cache Bar takeout, we stop for yet another delicious, riverside lunch, and allow you some parting time with this wonderful place. Post lunch, we make our way to the ramp, joining the Main Salmon River along the way, to run our final and biggest rapid of the trip, Cramer Creek Rapid. At the takeout, we will say our goodbyes, and your group will be chauffeured to your lodging accommodations or further travel plans.

See you on the river soon!
